Danielle Schroeder is an indie folk singer songwriter grateful to live on the stolen lands of Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil waututh nations, also known as Vancouver, BC. She is a mother of two daughters, and also a counsellor. Her music grew out of her work as a counsellor supporting people living with cancer and those at end of life.

Danielle’s lyrics invite us to reflect on and explore the deeper questions and rumblings of being human, through emotionally rich melodies that can be both simple and mystical. Her musical roots are deeply influenced by some of the most iconic and influential female singer-songwriters of the past 50 years. These include Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant, Ani DiFranco and India Arie. Her songwriting has continue to evolve, and more recent EPs have been inspired by contemporary bands such as The War on Drugs.

Between Two Worlds

…At the heart of the sound, Danielle’s mature, earthy voice sits, confident and emotive, like a benevolent force, guiding you through the theme and the sound.” -Lost in the Manor

‘Between Two Worlds’ is a compilation of 5 tracks that speak to the challenges, paradoxes, and possibilities existing within and around us today. Each song invites listeners to explore the many worlds that unfold within time and space.

These songs act as a gentle guide to help listeners learn to trust and stay open to the tension and discomfort experienced when living between worlds-inner and outer, old and new, mind and heart, joy and sorrow, light and dark, visible and invisible.

May these songs be a way to bridge the divide and re-remember our deep sense of wholeness and oneness to ourselves and all of creation.

Interview with Canadian Beats

FIRST OFF CARE TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO OUR READERS?

I am a singer-songwriter grateful to live on the stolen lands of Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil waututh nations, also known as Vancouver, BC. I am a mother of two daughters, who keep me on my toes, and also a counsellor. Songwriting and playing guitar have been passions of mine since my early 20s. At the time I never imagined a day would come when I would share my music publicly in the way I am today. For years it was very much a way for me to process my emotions, especially in the work I did supporting people living with cancer and those at the end of life. I grew up as a teenager in the 90s so a lot of my songwriting has been inspired by incredible female artists such as Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, Ani Difrano, India Arie, and Sarah Machlachlan.

HOW DO YOU TYPICALLY GO ABOUT THE SONGWRITING PROCESS? DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC METHOD OR CREATIVE ROUTINE THAT YOU FOLLOW?

Good question! Songwriting is such an intuitive process for me, in the sense that rarely does it happen when I am thinking or trying too hard with my cognitive mind. Rather songs tend to emerge when I least expect it, and usually during a time when I am either wrestling with or trying to make sense of something that makes no sense at all in our world, or when I’m moving through something deeply emotional in my life. What I have found is that when I am quiet and present enough with myself, which usually happens outside on my little rooftop deck, with my guitar in hand, a song starts to appear, as though it was carried by the wind!
